PEI Coastline Quahogs
The PEI coastline is well known for naturally growing some of the highest quality hardshell clams, known as quahogs. These clams grow in the mud and sandy bottoms of the saltwater bays and inlets all around Prince Edward Island.
Quahogs are hand harvested by individual harvesters by using long tongs while standing in a dory or by swimming in the water wearing wet suits with mask and snorkel.
Our quahogs are graded into three separate sizes: 1 inch to 2.5 thick is called a little neck, a 2.5 inch to 3 inch is called a cherrystone and a 3 inch and larger is called a chowder.
