PEI Coastline Clams

PEI Coastline Clams

We can walk around our processing facility and see the most productive soft shell clam beds on the Island. This is the historic Three Rivers system of eastern Prince Edward Island.

The clams are hand dug by individual license holders who work under some of the toughest working conditions. Can you imagine being on your hands and knees in freezing temperatures in May?  Or digging in mud and swatting horse flies in 30 degrees Celsius wearing rubber gear in July and August?

The soft-shell clam digging season on PEI begins in May and closes at the end of October, operating six days a week. The season is under the strict control of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Environment Canada.
